Kara Marshall, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Neurosciene
Kara Marshall earned a Ph.D. in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical sciences from Columbia University, and did postdoctoral work at Scripps Research Institute in the Patapoutian lab, where she studied how mechanical force sensation through PIEZO ion channels contributes to multiple physiological processes. In 2022, Dr. Marshall started her lab to study internal mechanosensation as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine and the Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital, with support as a McNair scholar from the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation. She is now a Freeman Hrabowski Scholar with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Pew Biomedical Scholar, Rita Allen Pain Scholar, and McKnight Scholar. She is interested in using basic science discoveries about interoceptive processes to inspire new therapeutic developments.
